I am a light marijuana user and do believe that decriminalization is long over due. People with depression, Pain and other health issues need it to make it through there day to day lives.

If marijuana is decriminalized, its use could be regulated in similar ways to similar lifestyle choices: smoking, drinking, etc. That would allow more widespread scientific study and lead to better public information on the balance between its helpful and harmful effects. In any case, decriminalizing marijuana helps chronic users immediately in two ways. Decriminalization makes it possible for them to openly discuss and ask for help when they feel too dependent. It also helps directly by keeping them further away from illegal drug traders, who can propose a whole host of other drugs that quickly become addictive and possible lead to severe consequences.

I ask why is pot so bad when we have cigaretttes, booze, and the drugs that the doc gives when your suffering from lifes stresses, is aceptable. You have some weed and you are a criminal but get a drink and have a smoke and the government makes alot of coin.I think we should make cigarettes and booze illegal, its only fare.

I personally believe that any marijuana user that believes that it should be legalized is insane. If it becomes legalized then the government will be able to tax the drug and regulate it. Making it more expensive for us light/regular/heavy users. As for if you regulate it, it will not become less of a mystery to people, it just becomes more accessible. In addition if people want more mystery in their drugs and marijuana (a very harmless drug) is legal and no longer mysterious, people will be more inclined to try harder drugs that have serious medical problems that can come with chronic use. Marijuana does not ruin your brain or make you stupid, it temporarily makes you feel better. and yes sometimes a temporary fix is all people need.

I worry that as I watch my teenagers try things, they will try marijuana and then move onto stronger, more dangerous drugs when the thrill of marijuana wears off. I know it cannot hurt you, but what is added to it can and what it can lead to is devastating on families.

Wow, this stuff is very intersting to read, but if its legalized then the growers who make a living off of selling and growing are going to loose there jobs and have to get like REAL ones : ) ,
i dunno its the first thing that like hit my mind, and the whole tax thing going on with it that would be a drag, and plus out of all the bad things that kids can do i think marjiuana is the least of everyones concern, .
I dunnno, i kinda want it legalized but then again i don't,

If the criminal aspect of pot could be chalked up to its medicinal properties there would be no issues with it since it's legal for medicinal purposes. It's all the other things about pot/hemp/weed... (it's all the same. If it has THC it's pot.) Fact is, cannibus, which includes hemp, can be used to create liquid fuel without parching the land and starving the nation (like corn based ethanol will), biodegradable plastics, textiles, softwood and paper products, epoxies and vitamin supplements. The list goes on and on.
If you want to know why pot is illegal in Canada, don't count the THC level, go count how many trees would be saved, plastic companies would go tits up, the forestry industry turned on it's head and many lost jobs in those sectors. All this talk about green living... God Save Mark Emery because pot could save this planet.
Finally, if we legalized pot we could remove it from the 'gateway drug' stereotype. Put it on the shelves and why else would someone go see a dope dealer if not for the chemicals despised in our society.

Ok...for starters, i am a regular marijuana user. now i know for a fact that marijuana isn't half as bad as cigarettes or alcohol..think about it, there are recorded death tolls from alcohol and cigarette consumption, but no real recordings of death by marijuana. they say marijuana users are more likely to try harder drugs, first of all, thats a flat out lie! i know people who have been smoking marijuana for a great part of their life, and they have never touched any other drug. Studies show marijuana has more tar content thatn cigarettes, this is true, it does, but on average, what would someone smoke more of? cigarettes obviously, because a pack of cigarettes is easy to get, and you will probably end up smoking the whole pack in a day, on the other hand of pot, u might smoke a gram at least in a day, and thats only 3 or 4 cigarettes so its less tar in total. Another marijuana myth is that when someone smokes marijuana they are prone to commiting crimes, now let me tell you! the only thing that a high person is prone to is sitting on the couch for long periods of time and enjoying the high.
But then again, that's just my personal experience, i know for sure there are people in this world who would go to every end just to prove all of my statements wrong, but hey, i know for a fact I ain't wrong, and the research studies are all botched experiments.

I believe that marijuana should be decriminalized. Alcohol is legal, and look how many lives are lost each year because of misusing the drug. How many accidents do you hear about caused by marijuana? It doesn't make you lose control of what your doing(unless its laced). AND if pot WAS legal! The government would not lace this drug with harder drug, therefore making marijuana safer for recreational use. The government also uses millions if not billions of dollars each year for police officers/projects to get rid of marijuana when they could be taxing the drug and using the tax money plus the money they would save trying to keep this drug illegal and use it for the homeless and people in need. If tobacco and alcohol is legal, why rule out marijuana? It is used for medicinal purposes and helps alot of people. How often do you hear people saying their doctor told them to drink/smoke more cigarettes for pain!? Close to NEVER! It bothers me that the people that are trying to keep marijuana decriminalized are the ones who have never tried it. I believe that kids should NEVER smoke or drink. But marijuana is just as east for them to access. Soooo why not legalize it, put an age limit on it, make the drug safer and benefit like the rest of the world by using marijuana!!! And for those who disagree with me? Heres your option DONT SMOKE IT, no one is forcing you. We should all have the choice.

i belive that if people want to smoke marijuana, they should be allowed. I dont belive in bringing huge amounts over from other countires, if we're growing it, which we are, we should be allowed to buy it. I dont belive people should be allowed to smoke it in publice places, just as we are not allowed to smoke ciggarettes in the public. If people are going to smoke it, they will, i think it should be allowed. It would be much eaiser. Doctors give out oxy cotton to patients, and they MUCH worse for you than smoking a joint or two. I am not a marijuana smoker, but used to be, and i know many people who do it. Those people will always do it, and something needs to be done with this issue. It has been going through the media way to much.

Marijuana should be legalized and allowed to people 16 and above. With the sale a legal marijuana the goverment would save on fines and raids for a lesser drug and be able to stop alot of the larger crime orginations and be able to place resorces on more important issues along with reciveing a royality from the taxes.

I believe that decriminalizing marijuana would probably lead to a demystification of the drug, and -in time- less people would be drawn to experimenting. Most people like to defy orders, especially when they feel like they should have ultimate authority over what's at stake -namely, their own bodies. Similarly to the desire to drink alcohol when it's still illegal to do so, I believe that even if people try marijuana out of curiosity, they would be less inclined to become socially-addicted.

Marijuana should be decriminalized but its useless to argue over this. The government will not decriminilize marijuanae simple fact for the simple fact that it cannot be taxed. You can sell marijuana in stores and wherever you like but why would people buy it from somewhere with tax when you can go down the street and get it for the price which you pay now with no tax? The fact is to make marijuana legal the government has to make money from it. If they dont make money why would they want to sell us anything? Look at gas prices if they werent making money from it why would it be so expensive? Just think of prohibition, liqour was baned until the government decided "hey we could make alot of money from this". Cigarettes kill people but will we ever stop selling them? Of course not! Find a way to tax marijuana and you've just decriminalized it.

The #1 cause of death in this country??? deaths related to tobacco use.
Can you die from drinking alcohol??? Yes!
Our government makes a HUGE profit on these two deadly industries.
Yet has ANYONE in the HISTORY of mankind ever died as a result of smoking marijuana? No.
(It might also be interesting to point out that marijuana has been used by humans throughout the ages, even pre-dating the most recent ice age.)

Marijuana should not only be decriminalized but made legal. The prohibition of marijuana has had many negative consequences, just like the prohibition of alcohol did in the US. It creates a thriving black market were criminals make large amounts of money very quickly, negatively affecting everyone in the community. Marijuana is also relatively safe compared to many legal drugs like alcohol, cigarettes, and even caffeine (many people die every year from caffeine overdoses, whereas no one has died from a marijuana overdose). When marijuana is ingested orally and not smoked there are very few if any known negative physical effects, and marijuana is not physically addictive. There is no reason why we should be putting innocent people in jail for using a drug, when the criminal record they get is far more destructive to their lives then the effects of the drug itself, not to mention the burden on the tax payers paying for the enforcement of this ridiculous law. We could also use the money made from taxing legalized marijuana to go towards treatment for people with real drug problems, as well as education.

The fact is that Marijuana is already easily available, and pretty much anyone can get it if they wanted. Policing the enforcment of drug laws in relation to marijuana are very expensive and futile. If we were to legalize marijuana and tax it, 2 good things will come of it, the federal government will raise over 1 billion dollars in taxes a year and it will be easier to monitor the drugs, specifically with age restrictions like smoking. Plus a bonus to this is that we can begin to phase out cigarettes, make those illegal. Heath Care would be down while the taxes will be shited to a new product leading to more federal money for other important concerns. Three of the major parties, Liberals, NDP and Green Party support this and for good reason.

I don't think it would be a bad think to decriminalise it... I mean at least you get a high out of it (not that I would know, not ebing a user myself). Cigarette on the other hand... totally should be banned... no good, only bad... and bad for everyone else around! BAN CIGARETTE!

Marijuana should be decriminalized but not legalized, If marijuana is decriminalized it just means that you wont receive a criminal record for possession but you could still possibly receive a fine for trafficking or intent to traffic, But in no way should it be legalized because that means that it would go into government regulation, which does mean easier access but it also means there would be taxes added to the cost, causing the government to make profit from it , which is not good for us also they might start adding chemicals to make it more addictive or they could take out the THC causing people to not git a high

The Government of Canada is taking steps to reduce tobacco use and reduce excessive drinking. The decriminalization of marijuana would be a slap in the face to the morals and health of our country. Tobacco and marijuana lead to a plethora of health concerns and lead to addiction and the use of more hardcore drugs. I believe that if you smoke, you should not be entitled to the same health benefits as Canadians that take care of themselves.

I firmly believe marijuana should be decriminalized. The first known law against the use of
marijuana was in 1915 passed by the Mormon Church in Utah. The Church passed this law
as the members were bringing it from Mexico for their own personal use. This criminalization
was later picked up by the government. I also believe that marijuana is a medicine, a harmless plant that has been twisted by pharmacutical companies (who are responsible for the deaths of thousand of people a year) and superstition, and empirical evidence suggesting thc (the active ingredient in medical marijuana) cures brain cancer. Marijuana should not just be decriminalized, it should be completely legalized. The same people who believe that marijuana should be ilegal and keep it that way, also believe in bombing third world countries and torturing people at Guantanamo. So I guess torturing a muslim person is ok, but smoking a joing is wrong.
How does that make sense?

decriminalization and legalization are 2 completely different things though keep that in mind, decriminalization is where if you were to be caught smoking a joint you would be fined but you would not receive a criminal record, but at the same time this decriminalization makes charges against, distributers and growers more harshly, which is quite absurd. police need to stop supplying phony so called "facts" that are not even statistics. marijuana needs to be LEGALIZED like alcohol and cigarettes which can be taxed(making money for the country and allows for REAL facts to be presented), not to mention that the economy would skyrocket with eco friendly products that are made from HEMP. Hemp products can include, health supplements, fuel, clothing, animal bedding, health products and MANY more. Not ONE person has overdosed or died from cannabis relating incidents (unlike alcohol and cigarette related incidents). making something such as marijuana illegal does not solve the problem, in fact in entices people to pursue it from our natural curiosity for things, making it even more "exhilarating" or "bad ass" to do so just because it is illegal. the prohibition of alcohol is a perfect example, it actually promoted the use, production, illegal selling, and smuggling of alcohol. legalization is the ONLY solution because, the public can be informed with real facts, and problematic chronic users can reach out for help if need be, it prevents from law abiding citizens from being barred from their potential jobs just because of the criminal record from smoking alittle joint. to top this all off im a regular user of "ganja". open your minds people, what the government/police spit out isnt all right, watch some zeitgeist. nuff sed.

People should not face criminal sanctions for making personal choices which harm only themselves; the criminalization of anything first requires severe harm to social welfare, drug use and marijuana especially do not meet this bar. What business does government have telling us what we are permitted and not permitted to consume? That`s right....none. The ramifications of criminal prosecution and conviction, for such trite matters are far more harmful to society than the guy who smoked some marijuana and ate too much pizza..... can we say waste of tax dollars?
We`re probably too late anyway as a devoted member to the american empire, our legislators are political hostages, with no real power

if marijuana becomes legall i really dont think anything will change. if people want to do it then they will. the police dont do alot about it being as its found so often and in huge doses. It may lead to more drug users but its barley harmless and is probably better than smoking ciggarettes. its natural and not some commercialized chemical injected substance thats going to give you cancer. i mean sure, its not the best for you but everyones doing it anyway? so whats the problem.

yes marijuana should be decriminalized, fuck just make it legal, take the power away from the drug dealers in put it back into the hands of the government. the government can make shit loads of money and people can enjoy smoking their weed. like its practically illegal to smoke cigarettes out side of your own home and car, why not make it the same for weed. and alcohol is fa worse than weed how many people die each year from booz. like shit loads. well unlike weed alcohol impairs your motor skills. have you ever tried running drunk it sucks but running high now thats fun.
